The most common types of sports injuries include:
  • Sprains: Overstretching or tearing the ligaments results in a sprain. …
  • Strains: Overstretching or tearing muscles or tendons results in a sprain
  • Knee injuries
  • Swollen muscles
  • Achilles tendon rupture
  • Fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Rotator cuff injury

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder occurs when the connective tissue enclosing the joint thickens and tightens. Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, involves stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin slowly, then get worse. Over time, symptoms get better, usually within 1 to 3 years.

Chronic Pain

Chronic or persistent pain is pain that carries on for longer than 12 weeks despite medication or treatment. Most people get back to normal after pain following an injury or operation. But sometimes the pain carries on for longer or comes on without any history of an
injury or operation.

Common types of chronic pain include:

  • Arthritis, or joint pain.
  • Back pain.
  • Neck pain.
  • Cancer pain near a tumor.
  • Headaches, including migraines.
  • Testicular pain (orchialgia).
  • Lasting pain in scar tissue.
  • Muscle pain all over (such as with fibromyalgia).

Disc Herniation

A herniated disc (also called bulged, slipped or ruptured) is a fragment of the disc nucleus that is pushed out of the annulus, into the spinal canal through a tear or rupture in the annulus. Discs that become herniated usually are in an early stage of degeneration.

Post Natal Pain

Post Natal (Afterbirth) pains are belly cramps you feel as your uterus (womb) shrinks back to its regular size after pregnancy. The cramps should go away in a few days. Right after you give birth, your uterus is round and hard and weighs about 2½ pounds.

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain that travels along the path of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve travels from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. Sciatica most often occurs when a herniated disk or an overgrowth of bone puts pressure on part of the nerve.

Types of Sciatica

  • Acute sciatica. Acute sciatica is a recent onset, 4 to 8-week duration of sciatic nerve pain
  • Chronic sciatica. Chronic sciatica is persistent sciatic nerve pain that lasts for more than 8 weeks and usually does not subside with self-management
  • Alternating sciatica
  • Bilateral sciatica

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that most often is diagnosed in
adolescents. While scoliosis can occur in people with conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, the cause of most childhood scoliosis is unknown. Most cases of scoliosis are mild, but some curves worsen as children grow.

In adults, scoliosis causes symptoms like these:

  • Uneven shoulders and/or hips
  • Bump in the lower back
  • Numbness, weakness, or pain in the legs
  • Trouble walking
  • Trouble standing up straight
  • Tired feeling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of height

Adolescent Orthotherapy

Pediatric physio therapists provide support and services to children and adolescents. Pediatric physio therapists help children and adolescents improve their range of motion, flexibility, strength and movement patterns. Children may need pediatric physio therapy for
the following reasons:

  • Trauma and/or injury
  • Altered Reflexes
  • Developmental delays
  • Pain management
  • Balance & Coordination problems
  • Strengthening
  • Gross motor skills
  • Cervical torticollis
  • In-Toeing
  • Walking difficulties
  • Postural abnormalities
  • Toe walking
  • Flat Feet

Pain Reduction

Some types of pain result from a disease or accident.

The types of pain include:

  • Acute  – This type of pain is sharp and often results from an injury. Acute pain gets better when providers treat the injury or disease that’s causing the pain. This type of pain can result from a bone fracture, muscle spasms, a burn or other kind of accident. Some illnesses and disorders, such as appendicitis and shingles, cause acute pain.
  • Chronic  – Providers call pain that lasts more than six months chronic pain. This type of pain can result from an untreated injury or disease. It can also result from conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia or nerve damage (neuropathy). Low back pain is another type of chronic pain.
  • Nociceptive  – Nerve cell endings (nociceptors) send pain signals to your brain when you have an injury. Nociceptive pain happens when you break a bone, bump your head or pull a muscle. The pain can be sudden and short-lived or long-lasting. It can affect your internal organs (visceral pain) or your musculoskeletal system (somatic pain).
  • Neuropathic  – Problems with the nervous system cause neuropathic pain (nerve pain). It happens when nerves fire pain signals to the brain by mistake, even when they aren’t damaged. Diabetes, multiple sclerosis (MS) and HIV commonly cause this type of pain.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a range of interventions, services, and advice to maintain, restore, and improve people’s function and movement and maximize the quality of their lives.

Physiotherapy can be helpful for people of all ages with a wide range of health
conditions, including problems affecting the:

  • Bones, Joints and Soft Tissue – such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder
    pain and sports injuries
  • Brain or Nervous System – such as movement problems resulting from
a stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease
  • Heart and Circulation – such as rehabilitation after a heart attack
  • Lungs and Breathing – Such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis
Physiotherapy can improve your physical activity while helping you to prevent further
    injuries.

Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most
commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

Chinese herbal medicine is part of a larger healing system called Traditional Chinese Medicine. Herbs are prescribed to restore energy balance to the opposing forces of energy – Yin and Yang – that run through invisible channels in the body.
